Central Police issued a warning about a dangerous social media challenge that they say led to a major crash on Central Thruway. The incident occurred on October 28, 2024, when a 17-year-old driver lost control of his northbound vehicle while allegedly participating in a drift challenge promoted on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Witnesses described seeing the car weave in and out of traffic and perform "brake checks" before veering off the road as it approached the Frenchtown Road intersection.

According to police, the northbound vehicle crossed the median, collided with a southbound vehicle, and eventually came to rest on the west side of the roadway.
