A crash on the ramp from Route 309 North onto Interstate 78 West in Upper Saucon Township, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, November 5, 2026, prompted a search for a driver who fled on foot and surrendered hours later, according to township police.
At approximately 11:50 a.m., officers from the Upper Saucon Township Police Department assisted Pennsylvania State Police with the crash. That was the reported response time; a separate time for the collision was not provided. Police said they knew the identity of the driver who had fled.
The search brought a large police presence to Route 145 and Vera Cruz Road early Thursday afternoon. Several police vehicles were in the area as officers scanned nearby woods with binoculars and carried firearms. Route 145 remained open in both directions throughout the incident, and the search did not stop traffic on that road.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., township officers were called to West Saucon Valley Road and Lanark Road following reports of a man who matched the description of the driver. Police used a thermal imaging drone to search the area and located him hiding in a cornfield a short time later.
Police assembled a contact team, with assistance from an Allentown Police Department K-9 unit. The man voluntarily surrendered without incident, according to township police. He was subsequently turned over to members of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Authorities said there was no danger to the public following the surrender. The information available about the crash did not identify the vehicles involved, describe any injuries or explain what led to the collision.
