Fatal Bicycle Accident on Cherry Road in Lakeland, FL on June 26, 2026

A late-night collision involving a bicycle and a motor scooter left one man dead and another critically hurt on Cherry Road in the Kathleen area of Lakeland, authorities said.

Emergency calls came in at about 11:12 p.m. Friday, June 26. Deputies and fire rescue crews responded to Cherry Road just north of Paul Brown Road, where they found two adult men with serious injuries.

Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to local reports, the bicyclist later died after arriving at the hospital. The scooter operator was last reported in critical condition.

Early information from investigators indicated the crash was head-on and involved a bicycle and a blue 2018 Sanmen scooter. Authorities said the bicyclist was reportedly traveling north in the southbound lane of Cherry Road when the scooter, which was headed south, came into that same lane. Investigators also said both the bicycle and scooter had lights, but it was still unclear whether those lights were working or turned on at the time of the crash.

Authorities noted neither man was wearing a helmet. Cherry Road was closed for about three and a half hours while crews documented the scene and cleared debris. The investigation remained open as of the latest report, and officials had not announced any final conclusions.
