A driver died in a two-vehicle crash in Fountain, Colorado, on Saturday, October 31, 2026, near the entrance to Pikes Peak State College. The collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of South Academy Boulevard and Venetucci Boulevard.
The Fountain Police Department said emergency medical personnel determined at the scene that the Cadillac driver had died. The driver's name and age were not reported. The department's Major Crash Unit responded and took responsibility for investigating the collision.
Police said their preliminary investigation showed that both the Cadillac and a Ford F-150 were traveling east on South Academy Boulevard. The Cadillac had stopped for a traffic light when the Ford struck the car from behind. Following the rear-end collision, both vehicles came to rest in the roadway's eastbound lanes.
Investigators believe driver distraction may have been a primary contributing factor, according to the department. They are also examining speed and possible alcohol impairment as potential factors. Those possibilities remain under investigation, and the preliminary account does not establish a final determination of the crash's cause.
All eastbound lanes of South Academy Boulevard were closed at the Venetucci Boulevard intersection, near the college entrance, as authorities investigated. The closure was in effect as of 8:45 a.m. on October 31. Police initially estimated the roadway would remain closed for about two to three hours, but said that timeframe could change depending on the results of the investigation.
During the closure, motorists were advised to anticipate delays and take alternate routes through the area. The department later announced that all eastbound lanes had reopened. An exact reopening time was not reported.
In a Monday, November 2, update, Fountain police said the investigation was still active and issued an appeal for witnesses. Investigators asked to hear from anyone who saw the crash, as well as people who were driving on South Academy Boulevard near the eastern entrance to Pikes Peak State College around 7:30 a.m. that Saturday.
Detectives said they are especially interested in dash camera footage that captured either the impact or the events leading up to it. Anyone who witnessed the collision, was in the area at the time or has relevant recordings is asked to contact Sergeant Eric Moore of the Fountain Police Department at (719) 396-0336.
