An unfortunate accident on Highway 36, just two miles west of Utica, has led to the passing of a 44-year-old man from Overland Park, Kansas. The tragic collision occurred around 2:20 p.m. on November 15, involving a 2017 Lexus GX4 and a 2000 Peterbilt 385 truck, both heading west. Reports from law enforcement reveal that the Peterbilt driver, a 70-year-old from Chillicothe, Missouri, was attempting a right turn onto Livingston County Road 425 when the Lexus crashed into its rear. The force of the impact caused the Lexus to roll onto its driver’s side in the passing lane, while the Peterbilt veered off the road, landing in a ditch.
The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Robin Macoubrie. Despite wearing a seatbelt, the severity of the crash was fatal. Meanwhile, the truck driver, who was also buckled up, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Cameron Regional Medical Center for urgent medical care. Both vehicles were declared total losses due to the extensive damage.
Police officers, including Sgt. S.J. Cool, Sgt. J.C. Gilliland, Sgt. A.A. Henry, and CVO B.M. Grier, were on the scene managing the situation alongside the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. Their quick response played a critical role in handling the aftermath of the crash. Local news sources have reported these events, highlighting the tragic loss and the ongoing investigation.
In another series of events in Chillicothe, police had their hands full over the weekend with various incidents, from traffic accidents to disturbances and criminal activities.
