According to authorities, the collision happened at about 3:42 a.m. on Aug. 15 as a Honda Civic was traveling north on Jog Road while approaching Lantana Road. Investigators said the car was moving at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control for an unknown reason and struck the center median on the north side of the intersection.
After hitting the median, the Honda crossed into the oncoming lanes and began rotating before its rear passenger side struck the front of a southbound Toyota Sienna, according to the crash report. The Honda then continued northwest, left the roadway, and caught fire.
The Honda driver, described by investigators as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota and a teenage passenger were taken for treatment with minor injuries.
