A fatal three-vehicle crash on US 231 near Lindsey Crossing in Bay County left two people dead and several others hurt Thursday afternoon, authorities said. The wreck happened near Lindsey Crossing and Pipeline Road along Highway 231 and caused major traffic disruption in the area.
Investigators said the crash involved a Tesla, a Chevrolet Tahoe, and a Cadillac Escalade. According to local reports citing the Florida Highway Patrol, the Tesla and Tahoe were traveling south when the Tesla attempted to pass. During that maneuver, the Tesla struck the Tahoe, and the collision then spread across the median into the northbound lanes, where the Tesla collided with the Escalade.
The aftermath left the Tahoe in the median, while the Escalade overturned and came to rest on its roof. The Tesla stopped on the east shoulder of the highway. Authorities said the Tesla driver and passenger died in the crash.
The Tahoe driver was reported unhurt. In the Escalade, the driver and two passengers suffered minor injuries, while another passenger was seriously injured. Earlier local reports said four injured people were taken to a hospital.
The crash also shut down one northbound lane and one southbound lane of US 231 for a time as troopers worked the scene and traffic backed up around the Lindsey Crossing area. Those lanes later reopened.
Officials have not released additional findings about the crash, and the investigation was still ongoing in the immediate aftermath.
