A 64-year-old Tampa man died Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026, after a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle collided on southbound Interstate 275 on the Howard Frankland Bridge, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 4:30 to 4:35 a.m. near milepost 35. The man was riding a Honda motorcycle south on I-275 as traffic moved across the bridge. A Kia Soul, driven by a 48-year-old woman from Lakewood Ranch, was also traveling south in a nearby lane.
According to authorities, the motorcycle moved from the outside center lane toward the outside lane, where the Kia was traveling. The Kia then struck the motorcycle near the 35-milepost area. Officials have not reported any additional vehicles involved in the collision.
The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries at the scene. No other injuries were reported. His name was not included in the initial reports reviewed for this article, and Accident Reporter is not identifying him until authorities or family release that information publicly.
The crash affected traffic on the bridge during the morning commute. Local reports indicated that two right lanes were blocked after the collision, with closures still noted as of about 9 a.m. The Howard Frankland Bridge is a major I-275 connection across Tampa Bay, so even partial lane closures can create significant delays for drivers traveling between Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
The Florida Highway Patrol was reported to be investigating the crash. As of the available reports, officials had not announced charges or a final investigative finding. In fatal crashes, later records may clarify the sequence of events, lane positions, vehicle damage, and any contributing factors.
For relatives and others directly affected by this I-275 motorcycle crash, it may be useful to keep copies of the crash report when available, insurance correspondence, photographs, and any medical or funeral-related records. Those documents can help families understand what investigators documented while the case remains under review.
Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died in this fatal motorcycle crash on I-275 at the Howard Frankland Bridge. After a sudden loss, families may be left with difficult questions about the official crash report, insurance communications, vehicle damage, and what investigators may determine later. Speaking with a local law firm can help affected families understand their options and organize important records without making rushed decisions. No outcome is guaranteed, but early guidance may make the process less confusing during an already painful time.
