Pensacola Police Detective Angela Nieto died at the scene of a motorcycle crash on the Barrancas Bridge over Bayou Chico in Pensacola, Florida, according to details reported October 15, 2026. Investigators said Nieto was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by a friend. The driver lost control while heading east on the bridge, and Nieto was thrown from the motorcycle. The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Pensacola Police were investigating the crash with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol. Police Officer Mike Wood said investigators were working to establish how and why the crash happened. Wood described the use of scene scanning to help investigators reconstruct the crash. He also identified witness statements and any available video from the area as evidence investigators would use to understand what occurred. Nieto joined the Pensacola Police Department as a cadet in 2019 after serving in the military. She became an officer seven months after joining the department. Wood described her as a respected detective and said she would be missed by her colleagues. Community members also shared memories of Nieto’s work. Tatianna Thomas recalled asking Nieto for help after experiencing abdominal pain while pregnant following a fishing trip. Thomas said Nieto knelt beside her, held her hand and called for an ambulance. She remembered Nieto remaining with her and offering reassurance, and credited the detective’s assistance with helping ensure her daughter’s safe birth. Funeral arrangements were being made at the time of the report.
