A 22-month-old boy died after a vehicle struck him and his father at the Limestone Marketplace shopping center parking lot in Georgia. The fatal pedestrian crash was reported October 23, 2026.
The boy, identified as Knox, was being held by his father, off-duty Gainesville firefighter Samuel Skelton, outside the shopping center when they were struck.
According to police, 68-year-old Teresa Parker was attempting to park a 2024 Ford Edge in an accessible parking space when she unintentionally accelerated. The vehicle crossed the curb and hit Skelton and his son. Police said Skelton had his back to the approaching vehicle and did not see it coming.
Knox was airlifted to a children’s hospital in Atlanta, where he later died from his injuries. Skelton suffered minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.
Parker remained at the scene, police said. She had not been charged at the time of the report, and the crash remained under investigation.
The Gainesville Fire Department asked the community to support Skelton and his wife, Kiana, following their son’s death. A fundraiser was also established to help the family.
Knox’s obituary recalled his love of monster trucks and visits to the fire station where his father worked. It also described his enjoyment of playing on the swings during park outings on his father’s days off. He was approaching his second birthday.
