A 45-year-old Port St. Lucie man died Monday night after he was struck by a tractor in an active construction area on I-95 in St. Lucie County, according to authorities.
The incident was reported at about 10:04 p.m. near Mile Marker 117. Investigators said the crash happened in a northbound lane that had been closed for repaving work. The man was standing in that lane when a Massey Ferguson tractor equipped with a front-mounted rotary sweeper approached and hit him.
Authorities said the tractor was being driven by a 38-year-old man from Royal Palm Beach. The work vehicle was traveling south within the closed inside northbound lane at the time of the collision. No other injuries were reported.
The 45-year-old man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m. Officials had not publicly released his name as of the latest reports.
