A 78-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening after he was struck while crossing Veterans Memorial Highway in northeast Tallahassee, according to authorities.
The collision was reported around 5:50 p.m. at 10470 Veterans Memorial Highway in Leon County. Investigators said a sedan was traveling southbound when it hit the pedestrian as he was crossing the roadway. Local reports indicated the man had been heading across the road toward his mailbox when the crash happened.
The pedestrian, who was from Tallahassee, was pronounced dead at the scene. No name had been released in the information available. Authorities also said the driver, a 36-year-old woman from Georgia, stayed at the scene. She suffered minor injuries.
