Marion County sheriff's deputies investigated a car accident linked to a fatal shooting near Liberty Middle School in Ocala early Thursday, October 22, 2026. The vehicle crashed on SW 95th St. near the school's entrance. Deputies received a report that a man and a boy had been admitted to a local hospital with shooting injuries. The man later died. The reported death was associated with the shooting, rather than identified as a result of crash injuries. The sheriff's office described the incident as isolated and said there was no threat to Liberty Middle School or the public. A student reported finding a gun in the road near campus. Officials could not confirm whether that gun was connected to the shooting. As part of the investigation, detectives asked residents in the area for security camera recordings from between 11 p.m. and midnight that could help with the case. That footage request was not identified as the time of the crash. Anyone with information that may assist detectives can contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office through its non-emergency number, 352-732-9111.
