A 49-year-old Steinhatchee man was pronounced dead at the scene of a pickup truck crash in Dixie County on Monday, October 19, 2026. His passenger, a 28-year-old Steinhatchee man, was taken to a Gainesville hospital with serious injuries, according to authorities. The single-vehicle crash occurred just after 7:15 p.m. on County Road 361 near SW 844th Street. Troopers said the pickup was traveling north when it left the roadway. The reason for that initial departure was not known. Troopers described a steering correction as the driver tried to bring the pickup back onto the road. The truck crossed both lanes and continued across the southbound shoulder before entering a ditch. The pickup then rotated and overturned. It also struck a culvert at a private driveway and multiple trees before coming to rest in a wooded area, according to authorities. Authorities said next of kin had been notified for both men. The men were not identified by name.
