The driver and five passengers in a Chevrolet Traverse, all adults, were trapped in the SUV and declared dead at the scene after a collision with a Road Ranger truck on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County, Florida. Details of the crash were reported on October 25, 2026.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the collision occurred in the northbound lanes near mile marker 252. Before the collision, the Road Ranger truck had been parked in the median with its emergency lights activated while its driver assisted with an earlier crash.
Troopers said the Road Ranger driver received a request to assist a box truck on the outside shoulder. The driver was attempting to move across the roadway when the collision occurred. The Traverse was heading north in the inside lane.
Witnesses described the SUV as traveling at a high rate of speed with its headlights off, according to troopers.
FHP said the left front of the Traverse hit the right rear of the Road Ranger truck. The collision pushed both vehicles off the roadway, and both caught fire.
The Road Ranger driver stayed at the scene and was not transported to a hospital.
Authorities had not confirmed the identities of those who died. The medical examiner’s office was expected to establish their identities and provide that information to FHP. The crash remains under investigation.
