A fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer and a sedan was reported Thursday morning on Interstate 75 at Clark Road in Sarasota. Authorities said the collision happened around 6:53 a.m. on the southbound entrance ramp and involved a Peterbilt tractor-trailer and a Ford sedan.
Early reports indicated both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A later update stated that the sedan driver, a 27-year-old Sarasota man, died from his injuries at about 11:30 a.m. The truck driver, identified as a 48-year-old man from Hialeah, was reported hospitalized with serious injuries.
According to authorities, the sedan was traveling south on the entrance ramp when it experienced a tire blowout. Investigators said the car then moved into the path of the tractor-trailer. The truck driver reportedly tried to avoid the sedan by shifting from the right lane toward the center lane, but the vehicles collided.
After impact, the tractor-trailer spun and overturned into the median, according to local reports. No additional injuries were reported in the information made public, and officials had not released further details about traffic disruptions at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. As that process continues, families and injured victims often look for the official crash report, medical records, photographs, and insurance correspondence to better understand what happened and what steps may come next.
