A 50-year-old Bradenton woman suffered serious injuries Monday morning, October 19, 2026, when her SUV struck a building’s roof and overturned in Ruskin, Florida. She was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital. Officials said the SUV was speeding when the driver lost control. The vehicle crossed a median into the southbound traffic lanes before hitting a ditch. It then became airborne and struck the roof of a building housing the Brooks and Brooks law firm and Hess Spinal and Medical Centers. After striking the roof, the SUV fell to the ground and rolled over. No one inside the building was hurt. A neighboring business owner witnessed the crash after stepping outside at the start of her workday. She described seeing the SUV approaching the businesses before it left the roadway. The Florida Highway Patrol said no impairment was reported. The driver was cited for failing to maintain a lane. The building’s owner said a structural engineer evaluated the damage after the collision and found it to be significant. According to the owner, nearly the entire roof would need to be replaced. The owner also described the roof’s supporting trusses as destroyed.
