Two Florida Highway Patrol troopers were seriously injured Monday morning in a crash on the northbound side of Florida's Turnpike near Northwest 106th Street in Medley, authorities said.
The collision happened at about 10:40 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles. Investigators said an FHP Chevy pickup towing a trailer and a marked patrol cruiser had pulled onto the emergency shoulder after the trailer became disabled because of a flat tire.
Authorities said a black Cadillac SUV then left the roadway and struck the parked cruiser. The impact pushed the cruiser into one of the troopers, who was outside near the trailer at the time. A second trooper, who was inside the cruiser, was also hurt.
The injuries were described as serious. A medical helicopter responded to the scene and landed on the roadway to transport one of the injured troopers. Traffic was affected in both directions, and northbound lanes were closed while crews responded. Drivers were diverted onto Northwest 74th Street during the closure.
Officials had not released additional details about other injuries, possible citations, or the full sequence of the multi-vehicle crash as of the latest public updates. The cause remains under investigation.
