Authorities are investigating a serious crash that left two teenagers hospitalized early Sunday morning on State Road 54 in New Port Richey. The wreck happened east of Old County Road 54 and involved a Chevy Traverse, according to local reports and the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators said a trooper first observed the SUV traveling 74 mph in a 45 mph zone. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver did not pull over and the vehicle reportedly accelerated to speeds of about 115 mph.
Authorities said that east of Old County Road 54, a trooper used a PIT maneuver during the pursuit. The Chevy then rotated onto the south shoulder and crashed into a utility pole and a tree.
Two teens were reported to be inside the vehicle. Officials said the driver was 15 years old, and both occupants suffered serious injuries. They were taken to a hospital for treatment. No additional information about their conditions had been released in the reports reviewed.
