A man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle early Friday morning in the 1400 block of Northeast 4th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.
Police said officers had first received calls just before 4:30 a.m. about a man who was allegedly damaging property. The caller reportedly told officers the suspect was known to him, but police were unable to find the man during that initial response.
About three hours later, officers were called again about the same person. When they tried to make contact with him in the 1400 block of Northeast 4th Avenue, police said he ran into the roadway and was hit by a vehicle.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue took the injured man to Broward Health Medical Center. Authorities described his condition as serious. No name or age was released in the available reports, and no additional injuries were reported.
The Fort Lauderdale Traffic Homicide Unit also responded as part of the investigation. Northeast 4th Avenue was later reopened to traffic. Investigators had not announced any final findings about the collision in the reports available as of Friday.
