A 17-year-old driver suffered Serious injuries in a crash involving a passenger car and a truck on June 9 in western Palm Beach County.
Authorities said the collision happened around 10:32 a.m. in the 14000 block of US Highway 441, also known as State Road 7, near Pero Family Farms west of Delray Beach. The crash involved a 2023 Hyundai Sonata and a 2023 Peterbilt 567.
Investigators said the Peterbilt was traveling eastbound from the farm entrance and was turning left to head northbound on US 441. Because of the truck’s length, part of its rear remained in the inside southbound lane. A southbound Hyundai driven by Fabiana Natalia Torres Motta, 17, then struck the rear left portion of the truck.
After the initial impact, the Hyundai continued onto the center median, crossed the northbound lanes, hit a guardrail on the eastern shoulder, and then came to rest partly in the bicycle lane and the northbound right-turn lane, according to authorities.
Torres Motta was taken to Delray Medical Center with serious injuries. The truck driver, Guerre Yves Destouches, 32, and passenger Todd Matthew Wilson, 59, were not reported injured. Authorities also said all three occupants were wearing seatbelts.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is continuing to investigate the crash. For families trying to sort through what happened, the official crash report, medical records, photos, and insurance correspondence may help clarify the timeline and any next steps while the investigation remains open.
