A teenage driver was involved in a serious crash on Tuesday morning after fleeing a traffic stop in Prospect Heights. The incident occurred when a 19-year-old man, driving a gray 4-door Lexus, was clocked by a police officer going 56 mph in a 30 mph speed zone on Willow Road. Shortly before 10:30 a.m., the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped off, making a turn onto Rand Road. Due to safety concerns, the officer decided not to pursue the fleeing vehicle but alerted dispatchers about its last known location.
Minutes later, that same Lexus rear-ended a semi-trailer truck at the intersection of Palatine and Rand roads in nearby Arlington Heights. Witnesses reported that the Lexus was speeding and driving recklessly before the collision occurred.
