A tragic car accident took the life of Callie Pounders, a beloved Corinth High School student and star athlete, on November 4 in Corinth, Mississippi. According to Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell, deputies responded to the scene around 7:30 a.m. on County Road 408. Reports indicate that Callie was driving westbound when she lost control of her vehicle. In attempting to correct her steering, she overcorrected, which led her to run off the road and collide with a tree.
Emergency responders transported Callie to Magnolia Regional Health Center, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries. The principal of Corinth High School, John Barnett, confirmed the heartbreaking news, expressing deep sorrow and offering support to Callie’s family and friends during this immensely difficult time. The school has set up counseling services for students and staff to help them cope with the loss.
Callie was known not only for her athleticism as the star pitcher of the softball team but also for leading her team to a state championship earlier in the year. The community has rallied in support, sharing tributes and fond memories of her on social media, emphasizing the profound impact she had on those around her. Principal Barnett underscored the need for the community to come together, stating, “In times like these, we must continue to support each other as the Corinth community.”
