Tragic Collision on Asheville Highway Claims Life of Bonita G. Metcalf in Greene County, TN on October 23, 2024

One person has lost their life, and three others sustained injuries in a collision on Asheville Highway early this morning. The crash occurred around 6:15 AM near the 107 Cutoff and involved three vehicles. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the incident began when a Ford F-150, driven by 47-year-old Donald E. Arrington, was traveling northbound behind a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 67-year-old Bonita G. Metcalf. A southbound Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 20-year-old Samuel B. Davis, was also involved in the accident.

Arrington's truck stopped to turn left onto Cove Creek Road, which resulted in him striking the rear of Davis’ Silverado. This impact pushed the Silverado across the centerline, leading to a head-on collision with Metcalf’s car. Tragically, Bonita Metcalf was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis, along with passengers Jackie R. Aiken, 58, and Leann B. Aiken, 57, suffered injuries and were transported for medical care. Miraculously, Arrington did not sustain any injuries. Emergency responders, including Highlands Air Rescue, utilized helicopters to transport the injured citizens to local hospitals, while the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol began investigating the incident. Charges may be pending as the investigation continues.

On another note, a separate accident on I-95 in Greenland left two individuals deceased and a third seriously injured. The crash happened in the early afternoon when 24-year-old Steve Le drove a 2023 Toyota Camry northbound. For reasons still under investigation, he lost control, veering into the southbound lanes where he collided with a 2019 Ford Econoline, driven by 58-year-old Leslie Lynn. Both drivers were declared dead at the scene. A passenger from the Econoline was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Traffic was significantly disrupted while authorities conducted the investigation, and they encourage anyone with information to reach out.
