A male motorcyclist, 26 years old, tragically lost his life following a collision on Oahu’s North Shore on the evening of October 31, 2024. The accident took place around 4:45 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway at Ke Nui Road, close to the Rockpiles surf spot in Pupukea. According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), the motorcyclist was attempting to overtake a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old woman when the crash occurred. As the woman was making a left turn onto Ke Nui Road, the motorcyclist collided with her car, resulting in him being ejected from his motorcycle onto the roadway.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) promptly arrived on the scene and transported the motorcyclist to the hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Notably, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment as well. An ongoing investigation by police indicates that speed may have been a contributing factor to this unfortunate incident, though it has been noted that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be involved.
This incident marks the 39th traffic fatality on Oahu in 2024, a concerning figure compared to 47 at the same time in the previous year. Following the collision, Kamehameha Highway was temporarily closed in both directions to facilitate the investigation, but was reopened shortly before 9 p.m. that evening.
