A pickup driver was found dead inside the vehicle after it went off State Route 14 during a police pursuit in Lyons, Wayne County, according to New York State Police. The incident was reported on October 27, 2026.
The circumstances of the driver's death remained under investigation. The information released did not establish that the road departure caused the death.
Police said they located the pickup in Lyons around 10:30 a.m. and attempted a traffic stop. The driver did not stop, and a pursuit followed. Wayne County sheriff's deputies deployed tire deflation devices during the pursuit before the truck went off State Route 14, state police said.
Deputies subsequently ordered the driver to leave the pickup but received no compliance, according to police. The sheriff's office used an armored vehicle to approach the truck, where the driver was found.
The incident closed State Route 14 between Culver Street and Schleede Road in Lyons for several hours.
The attempted traffic stop followed a separate death investigation in Moira, Franklin County. State police said troopers responded to a home there around 8:45 a.m. and found a woman dead. Investigators then identified a pickup truck potentially connected to that incident, leading police to the vehicle in Lyons.
Authorities were still investigating the circumstances of both deaths. The driver's name and age were not released in the supplied information.
