A bicyclist was killed late Saturday night in the Kathleen area of Winter Haven after being struck by a car on Frontage Road at Winston Creek Parkway.
According to authorities, the crash happened at about 11 p.m. on August 15, 2026. Investigators said a 43-year-old Plant City man was driving eastbound in a 2004 Lexus sedan on Frontage Road when an older white male was riding a blue beach cruiser-style bicycle eastbound several feet into the travel lane. The car then struck the rear of the bicycle.
The bicyclist was thrown onto the hood of the sedan and partially through the passenger-side windshield, according to the investigation. He suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Authorities did not release the bicyclist's name.
The crash closed both eastbound and westbound lanes of Frontage Road for about three hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
