Authorities said a fatal two-vehicle crash happened Friday night in the northbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 177 in Sarasota County.
The collision was reported shortly after 8:50 p.m. Investigators said a Chevrolet Impala was traveling north when it struck the rear of a Toyota that was also on the interstate. After the initial impact, the Impala left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
A 34-year-old man from North Port, who was driving the Impala, died at the scene, according to authorities. The driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old man from Homestead, was not reported injured.
