A fatal motorcycle crash was reported early Friday in South Venice along U.S. 41 near Baffin Drive, according to authorities.
Investigators said the crash happened at about 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 14. A 28-year-old Sarasota County man was traveling north on the east sidewalk of U.S. 41, also known as Tamiami Trail, north of East Baffin Drive, when he lost control of a 2008 Honda CRF motorcycle and fell to the ground.
The rider was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not publicly released his name.
