Fatal Pedestrian Accident on SE El Sito Court in Port St. Lucie, FL on June 28, 2026

Authorities are investigating a fatal driveway incident that happened Sunday morning on SE El Sito Court in Port St. Lucie. A 78-year-old Port St. Lucie woman died after being struck by the open driver’s door of an SUV that rolled backward at a home, according to reports.

Available information indicates the woman was standing beside a parked Lincoln MKX in the driveway, positioned between the open driver’s door and the left side of the vehicle. Her 59-year-old son was seated in the front passenger seat at the time. Investigators said the SUV was started just before 11 a.m. when he reached across the center console to press the brake pedal and the start button.

For reasons that have not yet been publicly explained, the SUV then began moving backward in the driveway. As it rolled, the open door hit the woman and knocked her to the ground, authorities said. She was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, where she was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m.

No charges had been announced in the immediate aftermath, and the Florida Highway Patrol was continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident. Officials had also not publicly released the woman’s name.
