Authorities said a 55-year-old Gainesville woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash early Friday on Interstate 75 near mile marker 279 in Wesley Chapel.
The crash happened at about 2:40 a.m. on July 10. Investigators said the woman was driving an Acura southbound in the center lane when traffic ahead had stopped because of a separate crash.
A Toyota Camry had come to a stop in the center lane, and a tractor-trailer had also stopped nearby in the outside lane, according to reports. Troopers said the Acura did not stop in time, struck the rear of the Camry, and then continued forward into the back of the tractor-trailer.
The Gainesville woman died at the scene. Officials said the Camry driver, a 34-year-old man from Tampa, and the tractor-trailer driver, a 27-year-old man from Kentucky, were not injured.
No further details about possible lane closures or the length of the investigation were immediately available. As with many fatal interstate crashes, additional information may come through the official crash report or later updates from investigators.
