Jessica Moore, 36, of Newville, was pronounced dead at the scene of a seven-vehicle crash on I-81 in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Three other people were taken to a hospital, two with serious injuries.
Details of the crash were reported on October 26, 2026. Charging documents describe the collision as happening on a Friday just before 7:30 a.m.
Police said a Peterbilt tractor-trailer struck the rear of a Honda CR-V, pushing it into a Mitsubishi. The truck continued pushing those vehicles and struck a Subaru Forester, which then hit a Dodge Ram towing a trailer. Other vehicles were struck during the chain reaction. Moore was driving the Subaru, which caught fire.
According to charging documents, the truck driver, Rodis David III, 43, of Round Rock, Texas, told troopers he had been traveling between 65 and 70 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Police said he also told them he did not have enough time to stop for traffic backed up by an earlier crash.
The charging documents also noted that the tractor-trailer’s inspection had expired in August and that a windshield-mounted cellphone suction cup blocked part of the driver’s view. These details were among the findings described in the affidavit.
Court records show David faces felony charges of homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle, along with misdemeanor charges of recklessly endangering another person and summary driving violations. The charges are allegations, not findings of guilt.
Court records listed him as being held in Cumberland County Prison on bail set at $150,000, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 4.
