Logan Rickert, 29, of Lock Haven, was killed when a tractor-trailer struck him while he was helping another motorist on Interstate 80 in Valley Township, Montour County, Pennsylvania.
The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on October 26, 2026, between mile markers 224 and 225 on the eastbound side of the interstate.
According to Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn, the motorist Rickert stopped to help had been involved in an earlier collision between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer did not stop after that collision. The pickup had been pushed partly off the roadway.
Rickert had stopped in his own pickup and stepped out to assist the other motorist. A second tractor-trailer then departed the eastbound travel lanes and struck him. Why that truck left the lanes was not known.
Rickert was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck involved in the collision with the other motorist's pickup was separate from the tractor-trailer that struck Rickert.
The Montour County Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police at Milton are investigating the crash. An autopsy was pending.
