A pickup later reportedly struck the damaged pole while trying to avoid it. No one was hurt, and about 30 homes lost power.

New York State Police said the initial crash happened before 5 a.m. The driver of a Volkswagen Beetle tried to avoid a deer in the roadway before striking a mailbox and a utility pole, according to troopers.
