A 62-year-old Holland Township woman was seriously injured when her car struck a house on Riley Street, west of 136th Avenue, around 8 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2026.
The woman was traveling west when her vehicle crossed the centerline, left the roadway and passed between two trees in the home's front yard. The car then hit the house near the garage.
Firefighters removed the driver from the vehicle, and an ambulance took her to an area hospital. A 9-year-old boy riding with her was not injured. Two family members who were sleeping inside the house were also unharmed.
Sheriff's deputies said the house sustained significant damage. The homeowner, who was at work when the crash occurred, said afterward that her family could no longer live there.
The family of four planned to stay with relatives. Assistance from the American Red Cross of West Michigan was also expected. The homeowner was waiting for her insurance company and said it was too early to know the full extent of the damage.
Cleanup began with her father clearing shattered glass and gathering items affected by the impact. Among the damaged belongings were favors prepared for the homeowner's niece's 15th birthday celebration. Most of the 220 party favors were ruined, adding to the family's losses as they arranged somewhere else to stay.
