A University of Louisiana at Lafayette student suffered minor injuries after being struck by a car while crossing a street in Lafayette on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Police said the crash happened at about 10:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of Johnston Street. Lafayette Consolidated Government spokesperson Jaime Boudreaux said the student was crossing Johnston at St. Mary Street when the vehicle struck.
Lafayette Police Department spokesperson Robin Green said the student was treated at the scene instead of being taken to a hospital. Boudreaux said the student had a leg injury.
The driver of the car was issued a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to Green.
At the time of the collision, Lafayette Consolidated Government was leading a group of about 20 people on a walking audit around the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.
Green said police were not investigating the crash. She said the crash report would be available for the student to pick up within five to seven days.
