A Tampa police cruiser overturned in a collision with a Hillsborough Area Regional Transit bus and a Dodge Charger at North 34th Street and East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 9 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2026, according to police.
The patrol vehicle was traveling east on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard while the bus headed south on North 34th Street. A white 2017 Dodge Charger was parked in the northbound lanes of North 34th Street when the cruiser and bus entered the intersection. All three vehicles collided, leaving the police car on its roof.
The officer, a 12-year veteran of the Tampa Police Department, was alone in the cruiser. The officer suffered a cut to the head and was taken to a hospital.
Medical crews also took two adult bus passengers to a nearby hospital for precautionary evaluations. Authorities did not confirm that either passenger had been injured.
The man driving the Dodge Charger suffered a minor leg injury. He was medically cleared at the scene, according to police.
Acting Police Chief Brett Owen said early reports indicated no critical injuries. He expressed concern for everyone involved and wished them well in their recovery.
Traffic detectives were gathering physical evidence at the intersection as part of the investigation. Police had not released what caused the vehicles to collide or which vehicle had the right of way.
People involved in a Tampa bus collision may want to retain the crash report, medical records and insurance correspondence. A qualified Florida attorney can explain how those records may relate to insurance claims and any applicable deadlines.
