A woman from Big Lake, aged 40, tragically lost her life in a two-vehicle crash that occurred early Wednesday morning on Highway 10. The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the incident happened around 7:40 a.m. when the victim, identified as Danielle Hayes, was trying to cross the highway at the intersection of 172nd Street Northwest. At that moment, a 25-year-old man from Elk River, driving a Ford Fusion westbound, collided with Hayes’ Nissan Altima.
Emergency services promptly responded, and Hayes was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. The driver of the Ford Fusion, Blake Seraaj, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is reported to be fine after the accident. Authorities are currently investigating the crash, and they noted that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The fatal accident led to the closure of westbound Highway 10 for several hours as crews worked at the scene. It wasn’t until around 11 a.m. that the roadway was reopened, allowing traffic to resume in that area. This incident is part of a concerning trend, as local data show that the number of road fatalities in Minnesota is nearing the previous year's total, indicating an urgent need for increased road safety and awareness.
