Early Wednesday morning, a tragic accident involving three semi-trucks resulted in one fatality and serious injuries for another driver on Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County. The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. near mile marker 248, just south of Osceola Parkway. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the chain-reaction collision began when a 2018 semi with a double trailer traveling southbound failed to slow down for traffic ahead. The semi struck the back of a 2013 Volvo semi-truck, which was being driven by a 38-year-old man, pushing it into the rear of a 2025 Freightliner semi-truck driven by a 55-year-old man.
Following the impact, the 2018 semi-truck caught fire. Tragically, the driver of the 2018 semi died at the scene. The driver’s identity has not yet been confirmed, but authorities stated that formal identification will be completed by the medical examiner’s office, and the family will be notified. The 38-year-old Volvo driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where he is receiving treatment. The Freightliner driver remained on the scene and was uninjured.
For much of the morning, all southbound lanes on the Turnpike were closed while emergency responders worked to clear debris and handle the fiery aftermath. Local sources indicated at least one lane had reopened by mid-afternoon, but significant delays were still being reported in the area as clean-up efforts continued. Drivers traveling towards St. Cloud were advised to exit the Turnpike at Osceola Parkway to avoid the congestion.
The incident is under investigation as troopers work to reconstruct the series of events leading to the deadly crash. Officials have confirmed that all three trucks involved were traveling in the same lane when the collision occurred. No further details about the drivers or other contributing factors were released at the time of writing.
