A four-vehicle crash on Interstate 275 north of Busch Boulevard in Tampa left one person dead and seriously injured another Friday night, according to authorities.
Investigators said a 21-year-old Tampa man driving a Chevy Silverado was traveling the wrong way in the northbound lanes of I-275 when the truck collided nearly head-on with a Toyota Corolla. The Corolla was being driven by a 24-year-old Tampa man, who died at the scene.
Authorities said both the Silverado and the Corolla overturned after the impact, and the Silverado caught fire. As the Corolla flipped, it then struck a Toyota Camry driven by a 26-year-old Wesley Chapel man. That impact caused the Camry to spin and hit a second Toyota Camry driven by a 38-year-old Tampa man.
The two Camry drivers were not reported injured. The Silverado driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. Officials said the crash shut down I-275 for hours Friday night while troopers worked the scene and investigated what happened.
Authorities also said the Silverado had reportedly been involved in earlier hit-and-run events before the fatal interstate crash, including incidents connected to Fowler Avenue. The full sequence of events remains under investigation, and officials had not released the names of those involved in the public reports reviewed.
For affected families, the official crash report, medical records, vehicle documentation, and any witness information may become important as the investigation continues and insurance questions are sorted out.
We are deeply concerned for everyone affected by this fatal Tampa crash on I-275. When a collision involves a death, serious injuries, multiple vehicles, and an active investigation, families often face difficult questions about crash reports, insurance communications, medical bills, and preserving important records.
