Maribel Perez, 39, was pronounced dead following a pedestrian hit-and-run in the area of U.S. 180 West in Lamesa, Texas, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, according to police. Authorities later arrested a man in connection with the collision. Officers with the Lamesa Police Department were dispatched around 1:13 a.m. after receiving a report of a pedestrian traffic collision. The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to investigate. According to police, investigators' findings suggested that a white Ford Mustang struck Perez and then continued eastbound. That account formed part of the investigation into the fatal collision. At approximately 5:17 a.m., police detectives located the Mustang and the alleged driver at a home in the area of North 12th Street. Police identified the man as Aaron Aguilar, 27. Aguilar was taken into custody and charged with failure to render aid resulting in death and intoxicated manslaughter, according to police. He was booked into the Dawson County Detention Center. Impaired driving is alleged through the intoxicated manslaughter charge, not established as a finding of the investigation. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
