A bicyclist tragically lost his life in an accident involving a police cruiser early on Monday morning in South Burlington. The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. on U.S. Highway 7, also known as Shelburne Road. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Sean Hayes from Burlington, was struck by a cruiser driven by Shelburne Police Sergeant Kyle Kapitanski. Local Motion has taken the initiative to start a petition urging local and state leaders to assess and improve the road's safety features. They are advocating for solid physical protections to prevent such tragedies in the future. “We are never going to stop the deaths and the serious injuries until we reduce the speeds and the number of lanes,” Weber stated.
