According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the first fatal crash took place on November 2 around 5:15 a.m. on SC Highway 462 near Bolan Hall Road, just south of Ridgeland. A head-on collision involved a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 71-year-old Johnnie Washington from Walterboro, and a Ford Ranger pickup truck. The driver of the truck crossed into Washington's lane, resulting in the crash. Washington was transported to Coastal Carolina Hospital but sadly was pronounced dead shortly after.
Later that same day, at around 7 p.m., another tragic incident unfolded on Church Road near Seabreeze Drive, where a 2001 Chevy Silverado collided with a bicycle. The bicyclist, identified as 46-year-old Jose Luna-Altamirano, was struck while riding without lights or reflectors and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.
The final accident occurred just after midnight on November 3 on Purrysburg Road near Church Road. In this incident, a 2013 Nissan Altima veered off the road, hitting a ditch and a tree, which resulted in the death of the 23-year-old driver, Jason Brown, from Hardeeville. All three accidents are currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
